102nd Recruit Class of the Florida Highway Patrol Academy

The Florida Highway Patrol Academy, a loyal blood donor group, draws recruits from all over the world who want to be among the finest trained Highway Patrol Officers in the United States. Thanks to the internet, applications can be completed online and e-mailed from anywhere in the world. These recruits are nearing the end of their 24-26 week training at the Florida Highway Patrol Academy in Tallahassee, and are looking forward to 10 more weeks of field training where they will accompany a Field Training Officer in the practice of the duties they will perform when they are assigned throughout Florida.

Sgt Martinez has been with the FHP Academy in Tallahassee for three years, and in that time has set an example for each new class by scheduling blood drives and donating blood at each of the drives. Sgt. Martinez began donating blood in his teen years, and in his lifetime has donated approximately 12 gallons of blood. By chairing blood drives that bring in about 40 units of blood from each drive held at the academy, Sgt. Bill Martinez has multiplied the life-saving potential of his role as a blood donor by encouraging FHP recruits to do likewise.
