Be a Hero Blood Drive Give Blood May 12-27 Singing For Life 2008 International Blood Drive Give the gift of life and receive the gift of music. Local Singers Belt it Out for a Good Cause
In the day and age of American Idol, it’s not unusual to run across an aspiring singer. But it is unusual to find a singer willing to sing their heart out to save a life. On Saturday, May 10, the Barbershop Harmony Society, in conjunction with the Southeastern Community Blood Center, will host the “Singing For Life” blood drive from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at SCBC’s main center on 1731 Riggins Road. “It’s our little treat to Tallahassee,” said Dana Fagg, area blood drive coordinator. “And it’s just in time for Mother’s Day. Everyone can bring mom to enjoy the sounds of Tallahassee’s own Capital Chordsmen and some other really great acts.” While giving blood, donors can enjoy the harmonies of the various choirs scheduled to sing. Among those singing will be Tallytones, Tallahassee Girls Choir, and the Bill Jones Bluegrass band just to name a few. Donors will also be treated to food and refreshments. Bruegger’s Bagels graciously donated bagels and sandwiches for Saturday’s affair. The event comes at a perfect time to help boost Tallahassee’s blood supply. It’s a day before Mother’s Day, and two weeks before Memorial Day. These two long weekends are usually periods of low donor turnout due to travel or holiday plans. At the same time, blood is needed most because of the increased number of travel-related accidents. “This is just a small gift back to Tallahassee,” Fagg said. “We think donors are really going to enjoy this. And hopefully it’ll keep the blood supply steady.”
