Is Dracula Urban Legend or Out for Blood?

Every year during Halloween, believers and non-believers alike hear the urban legend about Dracula hunting for blood. This year, it’s no legend – it’s real. And blood donors from the Southeastern Community Blood Center will discover just how real when they roll up their sleeves and donate for “Dracula’s” Blood Drive.

Southeastern Community Blood Center (SCBC) and Tallahassee Little Theatre (TLT) are partnering this October and these two community nonprofits are bringing Dracula to town in a big way.

SCBC
SCBC is hosting its eighth annual Dracula’s Blood Drive, October 22-31.   Dracula  ‘vants individuals to join him and give blood on an SCBC mobile or center and take a bite out of blood shortages.  All victims will get a black and red, “Out for Blood” t-shirt as a “fang you.”

And all day Oct. 26 donors can join SCBC costumed staff for the center’s Freaky Friday Party, 9am-6pm -- where those who have “partying in their blood” can enjoy a good time with treats, decorations and new this year complimentary clowning, face painting & entertainment by BoNzo & Company, noon-5pm.

TLT
Tallahassee Little Theatre is producing a live performance of Steven Dietz imagining of Bram Stoker's classic tale DRACULA, performed “live” on stage with the premier 8pm, Thursday, October 25, and running through November 4th at TLT.

SCBC is also awarding 100 tickets to donors and guests to the opening night of DRACULA, to witness the fear of Dracula in all his glory on stage and see it’s better to give blood willingly at the blood center than become a victim of Dracula.

Recently the cast of TLT’s DRACULA gathered at SCBC and donated blood for the “cause.”

“If I can do something that helps other people I’m going to do it,” said Julie Burna who plays the Vixen in “Dracula.” “We do community theatre all the time and this (giving blood) is the ultimate in ‘community’ theatre.”

Martin Peacock who plays a madman in the play says, “I usually don’t get a chance to help people and be in a show.  I’m really excited to be a part of this benefit.”

Remember its B.Y.O.B. (Bring Your Own Blood!)
